Dr Lucy Bassil
Clinical Psychologist; HCPC
I am a HCPC-registered Clinical Psychologist with experience working across NHS adult mental health services and in private practice. Throughout my career, I have supported individuals with a broad range of complex psychological difficulties, with particular expertise in trauma, emotional regulation, and difficulties relating to shame and self-criticism.
I believe that therapy can help you explore your story at a pace that feels safe and collaborative. My aim is to create a warm, non-judgemental, and connected therapeutic relationship, where you can begin to understand your emotions and experiences in a deeper, more compassionate way. By focusing on both the mind and the body, I help people identify the patterns that may keep them feeling stuck and support them towards meaningful change and recovery.
Areas of Expertise
My experience includes working with individuals who may be facing challenges such as:
Complex trauma and post-traumatic stress
Emotional regulation and distress tolerance
Feelings of shame and self-criticism
Anxiety and panic
Depression and low mood
Interpersonal and relationship difficulties
Stress and burnout
A significant part of my practice involves working with those who have experienced trauma and its lasting impacts. I am also interested in supporting people to reconnect with themselves and their emotions at a bodily level, helping to address difficulties that often feel held within the body as well as the mind.
Therapeutic Approaches
My style is integrative and trauma-informed, and I draw upon a range of evidence-based therapies to tailor my support to your individual needs. My core therapeutic approaches include:
Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT) – Cultivating self-compassion and reducing self-criticism.
Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) – Supporting people to process and resolve distressing memories.
Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) – Building practical skills for emotional regulation and distress tolerance.
Somatic-Based Therapy – Exploring the body’s role in emotional healing, recognising the connection between physical sensations and psychological states.
I also incorporate a relational and collaborative style that emphasises creating a safe and trusting space for therapy. Wherever appropriate, I may draw on additional approaches to enhance the work we do together, making sure therapy is both flexible and responsive to your goals.
