Anopama Kapoor

Counselling Psychologist; HCPC

I am a HCPC-registered Counselling Psychologist with over two decades of experience supporting adults across NHS and private settings. I am passionate about helping individuals gain clarity, build emotional resilience, and move forward with confidence in the face of life’s challenges. My therapeutic style is collaborative, respectful, and centred around each person’s unique needs and values.

I have worked in a range of services including general adult mental health, online therapy platforms, and specialist teams for older adults, autism spectrum conditions, and emotionally unstable personality disorder (EUPD). These experiences have helped me to develop a flexible and responsive approach to therapy, grounded in empathy and evidence-based practice.

Areas of Expertise

I work with individuals experiencing a wide range of psychological difficulties, including anxiety, depression, stress, low self-esteem, emotional dysregulation, trauma, and interpersonal issues. I also have significant experience in supporting individuals navigating neurodevelopmental conditions and long-standing emotional challenges.

My work focuses on helping clients better understand the roots of their difficulties through collaborative formulation, and on building practical strategies to support change. Whether someone is facing a period of acute distress or longer-term difficulties, I aim to offer a safe, non-judgemental space to be heard and supported.

Therapeutic Approaches

My approach is tailored to each client and draws from a range of evidence-based models. My main therapeutic modalities include:

  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) – Helping individuals challenge unhelpful thinking and develop healthier behavioural patterns.

  • Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) – Supporting emotional regulation, distress tolerance, and interpersonal effectiveness.

  • Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT) – Cultivating self-compassion and reducing inner criticism to promote healing and self-acceptance.

I believe that effective therapy begins with a strong therapeutic relationship. I work with clients to co-create a plan that suits their pace and goals, supporting them in taking meaningful steps towards positive change. As I often say, “I can help guide the way, but it’s you who takes the steps – and I’ll be with you each one.”

Professional Background & Qualifications

Alongside my private practice, I currently work within the NHS, providing individual and group therapy, clinical supervision, consultation, and staff training. I am committed to lifelong learning and reflective practice, continually refining my therapeutic skills to meet the evolving needs of the people I work with.
